Having a strong united purposeful opposition is essential for Ethiopia to practice true democratic governance. Everybody knows this. The opposition in Ethiopia is doing its best by putting their lives on the line. It is hard to criticize them from afar. The opposition in diaspora is living in the safety of democratic nations. There is no excuse for failing to form a unity in order to support those who are on the ground in Ethiopia. But it is enough to talk about the past. So there is no need bashing the opposition in Diaspora either. Lets look forward… This is a follow up to my previous article entitled: Ethiopia Anew: A Call to Amhara Ethnic People. One needs to read first my recent articles entitled: Wholesome Ethiopiawinet: Unity & Beyond and its background Ethiopia Anew: The 10 Theses in order to understand the gist of this article.
Accept Our Heartfelt Identification with You You have a choice to hear and accept those of us who are standing in the gap to agree with your pain (means confess in Greek); change our thinking about you because of our agreement (means repent in Greek); join forces with all to birth a new Ethiopia in a spirit of Wholesome Ethiopiawinet (means discovering our true identity). Unity is just the beginning.
The way it is going, the ethnic centered thought and the status quo ethiopiawinet thought will never reconcile to give us the true one Ethiopia unseen before. Here is an independent voice urging all to look for a third way: Wholesome Ethiopiawinet. There seems to be two diverging thoughts on the matter of Ethiopia. On one hand there is ethnic centered thought while on the other hand there is unitary or “Ethiopiawinet” thought. The first advocate for an ethnic group, whereas the latter struggles for “one Ethiopia”. This article is not about investigating which of the two philosophies is right for Ethiopia. Each of the two systems of thoughts has its respective arguments to defend its own way of thinking. That too is not the scope of this article. Here is an independent voice to explore the congruency between value and action in their respective stand.
Here is a positive letter from an independent voice that solicits a positive response on the basis of human decency for the greater good of Ethiopia. I don’t attempt to convince you by using a lot of words. I want my words to be few and let the truth be self evident with no bias whatsoever. I hope you are accessible to an ordinary person, considering it comes from one with a heart full of love for all.
How could the new Ethiopia be realized? The most travelled way is to start working from the top down: focus to change the government using ineffective methods. I argue, however, the right approach is to be able to work in parallel with the driving force dictated from the bottom up. The opposition may ignore the charge of the government against the opposition on the basis of fairness. However, I believe the opposition needs to pause from listening to only its own music and give serious consideration to this independent voice. It does Ethiopia good. Reconciliation is hard, but if we choose to embrace it at any cost, its impact is supernatural. In this article, I discuss as to how we move from attacking each other to joining with each other so that we all can come out more united as One Family.
It seems there is a big misunderstanding in the concept of reconciliation. I intend to write in series if the need warrants it. In this article, I would try to respond to the article written by Lydia entitled: “A Response to Zelalem Eshete P.H.D.” that was posted on Zehabesha on March 25.
I have seen several negative articles and comments in response to my recent article entitled: “Ethiopia Anew: A Call to Amhara Ethnic People”. These articles/comments have too many deficiencies for me to respond directly. Let me explain why:
This is a call to Amhara ethnic people from an Amhara ethnic individual. This is a about looking at ourselves inwardly first than looking at others outwardly. In doing so, it is my intention to demonstrate how we can put the problem of unity at the center and look at other ethnic people using different sets of eyeglasses thereby taking the unity dialogue to a new level in truth and love.
Ethiopia is at a crossroad at a very critical time. Our challenge today is to become a symbol of unity on the face of the earth. Someone declares, “I am an Oromo first”. Then comes the other one charging, “I am an Ethiopian first”. I say both are wrong as long as we are talking about how the New Ethiopia would live together in harmony. I argue by not refuting the presence of their valid arguments for such a stand, but by highlighting the absence of the spirit of love that makes us rise up from our own domain.

Deeper Walk With God Book on Ethiopia
This book makes a case for a paradigm shift in our thinking on the matter of Ethiopia. Instead of feeling powerless in our usual political saga, ethnic divide, and religious tensions, the book motivates us to look deeper, rediscover our true identity, and arise to make change. The greater power of change is with the people. The world has heard enough of our suffering. Let's spotlight the other face of Ethiopia: To Be Known As We Truly Are.
The world has heard enough of our lack of civilization. Let's spotlight the other face of Ethiopia: We Are One Big Intelligent Family. The world has heard enough of our poverty. Let's spotlight the other face of Ethiopia: Going Global Together. |
